Hi, I own a holiday home in La Mata and each year I visit several times but always seem to miss festivals or entertainment/events in the square or town area etc. When I look at the Facebook page for la Mata I always see videos of discos in the square etc but always after I’ve returned home 😶 is there a list of dates of events so I can book my visits to coincide? ( corona virus permitting, if course). Thanks 👍👍

I’ve searched high and low for the same info but sadly have never been able to find any advance La Mata info either.

In 2019 there were fiestas in the square on 3rd, 10th and 17th August. 28th September and 5th October.  So I guess will be similar dates in 2020...

Brilliant, thanks for that info, I’ve made a note of the dates. Hopefully by then, everyone’s life will be back to normal, corona virus will be a thing of the past and we’ll All be healthy and happy and enjoying beautiful Spain xxx

Hi, La Mata hold their "fiestas patronales" at the end of September and beginning of October every year with various events. If things were "normal" there would be a small fancy dress parade on the first Saturday in October (so 3rd October 2020) at around 6.30pm and I think a party in the square later, then a religious procession on the Sunday night ending with fireworks around 10.30pm. There is also an "International Day of the Pig" held on the last Sunday in January, where pork chops, bread and wine/beer are given free and everyone gathers in the square to have BBQs around 2pm. I will see if I can find any other regular celebrations in my old diaries!

This year on 16 July to celebrate the feast of Virgin del Carmen ( patron saint of fishermen) there was a very low key , but still enjoyable, firework display from the square in La Mata and a larger one from Torreviega port.

I also went to the feast of the pig in La Mata square at the beginning of this year.  There was a very long queue to collect fee meat , bread  etc but I hadn’t appreciated that the meat would be raw.  Need to take your own barbecue !!
