Hello! I'm just in the process of purchasing a property in La Mata which should be completed in September or October.

I'll be spending winters here with my dog and eventually renting out in the summer when I get my tourist license. Hoping there are lots of people still around outside of the summer months which is too hot for my dog! I'm 31 and from London.

I'm buying on Calle Zues if anyone lives near there. Heading back to the UK today but will be back soon (lockdown permitting!).

If anyone has any local tips or advice I'd appreciate it. I know obtaining a tourist license can be a huge pain so if anyone has recent experience (2020) I'd love to hear.

Thanks,

Katie

Welcome to La Mata.  I have a holiday home quite close to you in Molino Blanco and normally visit for a few days every couple of months.    I love winter out there.  It is quieter but there are still people around with some, but not all , restaurants remaining open.  And, of course, you are on a bus route so Torreviega is easily reachable by bus ( although they don’t allow dogs).   Winter walks along the beach to La Mata town are one of my favourite activities and it is generally warm enough to lunch outside.  Once the sun goes down (around 5pm) it does get cold so make sure you have some form of heating.  I’m afraid I don’t rent out so have no experience of getting a licence. Hope your purchase proceeds smoothly.

Hi,

I was wondering if you had misspelt Zeus as there is a road close to us called Calle Zeus in Torreblanca but not actually in La Mata.If this is where you have actually bought, it’s a lovely area and cIose to some very good restaurants, bank, optician, vet, florist and of course Mercadona!  Just remember that winter us winter in Spain, not through the day but once the sun sets in late afternoon, it becomes very cool.  Your air con will have hot air which is a great help. Bring warm sweaters and a Woolly hat and gloves for windy walks! Not always necessary but handy to have in a drawer.  Good luck.

Hi Katie,

Hope you purchase went through and you are a happy owner in beautiful La Mata. My wife and I applied for a tourist license and its been nearly 2 years and we don't have a definitive answer, so don't expect anything to happen quickly. The process is long for sure.  We love La Mata and can't wait for the Covid situation to improve so we can enjoy our home there.

All the best

Rich
