The UK Govt will not even look at a petition unless there are a 100k signatures and I will be in my grave by the time we get anything close to that figure.  The Spanish authorities don't care because they need the far left (pro-squatter) minority party votes to stay in power . In the end, it...

...s all about greed and power , ethics and principle mean nothing. They know what they are doing is wrong but won't lift a finger.

PS.  I've been reading some squatter laws in France and that is just as horrifying.

Whow that's really dissapointing news Keith. However, there are 300,000 Brits living in Spain and over 5 Million foreigners as of 2019, also all the majority of the 18.7 MILLION (2020) Spanish owners and renters DO NOT WANT SQUATTERS in their homes either, so I think they would also sign - That's some pretty hefty numbers to acheive 100K Signatures !

Wishing you all the Very Best.

There must be petitions already but just need to find them and add my signature.

Here is a template of a petition that can be submitted to Spanish senate but I cannot speak Spanish. Also look at all the confidential information that people will have to enter

Formulario Derecho de Petición (senado.es)

Written petitions must be submitted including the name of the petitioner or petitioners, nationality and address for the purpose of notifications, the addressee of the petition as well as the subject.

A  form is provided for the submission of petitions, although its use is not mandatory, with petitions accepted in any written format as long as the aforementioned details are included.

My petition:

Demand Spain Evict Squatters Within 24 hours Of Police Being Notified

Contact the Spanish PM and Minister Of Home Affairs demanding they amend their current laws regarding squatters. Their laws are biased towards squatters taking ownership of peoples properties and belongings leaving owners homeless and bereft of all their personal possessions sometimes for years.

Demand that the Spanish Police take immediate action when squatters are reported in an owners property. Evict them immediately if they have no written permission signed by the owner. Allow owners the option of cutting off all utilities rather than legally forcing them to pay for all the squatters usage. Currently Police will do nothing unless squatters are caught 'red-handed' . Eviction then has to go through the Spanish Court System which can sometimes take 1-4 years.

Signed Keith. Brilliant... Well Done.

Can you relist this as a new post on this forum ?  I think people will read it immediately and sign, as at the moment it is at the back of a very long thread of posts

Signed and well done. We can at least all live in hope.

Good idea to relist as Lee 03189 suggests.

Hi Keith,

well done on raising the petition! Perhaps one of the English papers in Spain could be contacted to make them aware of the petition? I'd agree that getting the numbers needed to be debated in the UK is going to be hard but the more exposure the problem gets in Spain the more likely the authorities are going to take notice.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Petition Rejected by UK ! ... Anyone capable of arranging a Spanish Petition?

UK - "Sorry, we can’t accept the petition you supported – “Demand Spain Evict Squatters Within 24 hours Of Police Being Notified”.

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for."

It’s a shame this has happened. However I have written to the BBC Panorama and the Daily Mail hoping they will take up the story. Still waiting for a response .  Benson
