Thanks for the quick reply, I will be 65 next year, husband 59, I won't get SP until Jan 2020, from what iv read, even when I get SP (and an S1) I would still have to wait until resident to get the healthcare.

These two sites may have answers to queries that you will have regarding bureaucracy, rules and regulations and driving in Spain:    Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for the general stuff and N332 for the driving stuff.   The latter site is in collaboration with the Guardia Civil and is for English speaking people.

I would ring newcastle and ask for the S1 to be sent out as you are 65 years of age and explain that you are retiring to Spain In any case make sure you register on the Padron and get yor NIE as soon as possible even before you come over you can get it at the British Consulate in UK depends where you live then you will get a tempory SIP card as soon as you are registered on the Padron

Hi we are going to buy shortly but will use the villa as a holiday home.  Most travel insurance limit the trips to 31 days, could I please ask what insurers allowed a 60 day trip. Many thanks.

Be very careful.!  UK travel insurance is based on the premise that you have defined travel plans. Definitely it is not designed with taking up temporary residence in another country and any attempt at a medical claim is very likely to fail!
