AD, thank you for this post and Kimmy, thank you for the reply. My husband and I are also looking at health insurance while we are there for 18 months. I am 57 and he is 59. I have heard good things about Spain's health insurance. AD - when you applied for your Visa what did you submit for health insurance? Did you submit your travel insurance? - Cindy
Cindy K, we haven't left the uk yet, we are looking at next year, I was just wondering if we could use travel insurance for 12 months as medical cover.

Not if you become resident in Spain, as U.K. travel insurance requires you to have U.K. residency.

We are coming from US but it seems that we both have the same concerns regarding health care while we are there. I have an appointment with the Spanish Consulate in November. I will let you know what I find out.

they sell 18 month policies for long term travel.

Also according to site they only insure up to 365 days 1 trip

AD,
I wanted to get back to you on what I found for health coverage while we are in Spain. I found my coverage at Sanitas Mas Salud. The coverage was inexpensive and I have heard from others that it is accepted by the consulate.
