Hi,

We have just made out first purchase in la zenia and are so excited.

We are visiting for 5 days on 25th August and we are unsure of the best/cheapest way to get to la zenia from Alicante airport.

Do any local resident people do airport runs?

Is it better to hire a car...if so any tips?

Thanks in advance

Steve and cheryl

Hire a car. Two transfers 2 and fro from the airport will cost the same. Also having a car brings the flexibility

Search holiday autos go for the cheapest on airport price and go for the full to full option.

I am in Villamartin and when I am not driving from the UK  I always hire a car at Alicante

Thanks for that, someone has offered to pick up-drop off for €50 each way, but I think for not much more i could hire.  I have had a great experience with firefly, but a terrible experience with another company.

Hi

The cheapest way from Alc airport.  A bus leaves outside the departure doors every 2 hours on the even hour. Ie 10,12,2,4,6.....last bus 10 pm. This goes directly to Torrevieja bus station...about 50 mins. Cost €6.92. From torrevieja bus station a taxi to La Zenia will cost app €15.

All hire companies are the same I use Firefly or Goldcar depending on which is the cheapest.

Go full to full with the fuel buy a 1 year car hire excess policy in the UK £35 and turn down their high pressure additional insurance offer at the desk. Make sure you inspect the vehicle on pick up

Public transport isn't a viable option. It could take almost 3 hrs to get from the airport to La Zenia depending on timetables.

We have a place in San Miguel and have a car there. However, for a change we decided to get the local bus from Alicante Airport direct to Torreviega bus station. You catch it from level 2 at the airport (go in the lift). It runs on the even hour all day, eg 2,4,6 etc. It only costs €6.95 each and has air con and is very comfortable. You can book in advance but not necessary.

When we got to the bus station we then got a bus half an hour later to San Miguel (which is much further than La Zenia) and that only cost €1.35 each!! There is a cafe there where we sat and had a coffee whilst we waited. Definitely the cheapest option. It wouldn't cost much to taxi from Torreviega bus station if you preferred. We quite enjoyed the ride. The buses return to the airport on the odd hour eg.3,5 etc. You can pick up a bus timetable from your local tourist office. Hope you enjoy your stay in La Zenia.. Must warn you it is extremely hot here at the moment!

Hi, thanks for that advice.

Cheryl isn't a very good traveller, especially on bus/coaches unfortunately.

That's something I would do though so maybe I could entice her to try it once...how long is the ride, and are there many stops?

I could never travel by coach either but was fine. There are no stops direct to the bus station. You put your own luggage underneath the coach and then pay the driver when you get on. It is very popular and our bus was full so if you use it I would recommend you put the luggage in whilst Cheryl gets on and pays and keeps your seat! We also had to put our hand luggage underneath. Our friend usually picks us up in our own car but we just used the bus for a change and to give him a rest. Would certainly do it again. Best of luck with your place. We have had ours over 10 years now and love it - not looking forward to returning at the end of this week! Still, back in September for 5 weeks.

Hi shir.

Yes please, we are considering all options as its so new to us.

Are you moving to live permanently?

We looked everywhere and at lots of properties before falling in love with the apartment and la zenia.

Great bargains to be had and our seller accepted €10k less!

Steve
