Nie help please!

Hi,
We are moving to Spain at the beginning of March but we are coming over next week without our children to hopefully get some formalities completed.
One of them is the NIE number does anyone know what we need to bring along and can we register our children with their birth certificates without them being present as I think we would both rather stand around a police station for potentially a few hours child free 😅
Any recommendations on the school process would be great, we shall be living in VIllamartin and will be wanting our children to attend a state Spanish school. I have found one called CEIP but I'm struggling to work out how cat away it is and if it's the best option.
