Hi can anyone offer advice about customs duty?

Recently moved from U.K. to La Zenia still waiting for my furniture and motorbike to be shipped over.

The removal company I am using have suddenly said I have to pay import duty for my motorbike which wasn’t previously advised by the co I’m using. .

I’ve been doing some research and google says if I’m going to be a permanent resident in Spain I could apply for an exemption of duty?
I am also awaiting a decision on my visa.
many thanks.

If you are importing the motorcycle because you are taking up residency in Spain then you can be exempt duty and IVA on it. I think you have to show you owned it for more than a year in UK before importing it and will need the necessary documentation. Perhaps contact a gestor whose job it is to do these things. Not sure if you'll have to wait until you have your residency but a gestor will steer you straight on that one.

This deals with vehicles specifically.

How have you moved whilst awaiting a decision on your visa, normally UK consulates retain passports during the process?

We have used a U.K. removal co.

Embassy allowed us to retain our passports as we own a home in Spain as sold U.K. home.

Why would you move to Spain with all that expense without knowing whether you had gained your visa, what if it was declined?

Obtaining your visa is handled by the Consulate, not the Embassy.
