We are residents of Spain but have been locked down in England for the last two months. Now that things are opening up here and in Spain we are keen to get back. It’s now possible to get a ferry to Bilbao but cannot get a definitive answer as to whether we would be allowed to drive from Bilbao to Los Montesinos. Any advice please.

Brittany ferries are suspended until June 1st. at the earliest, where are you getting information to the contrary?

In light of the coronavirus situation and advice, Brittany Ferries has temporarily suspended passenger services. We apologise sincerely to all those affected customers.

We are now in the process of cancelling all passenger sailings between the UK and Ireland to France and Spain up to and including 1st of June 2020. Limited freight-only services are operating between the UK, Ireland, France and Spain.

If you are Spanish resident then you can travel back to Spain by whatever means may be available and have always been able to. The UK lockdown did not and does not prevent that.

I am on the Brittany Ferries website at the moment and they are taking bookings for mid June. A problem would be that we only have copies of our residencia with us, the originals being at home in the safe.

In noticed that and I suppose you can't blame them for at least hoping and planning to be able to resume passenger sailings from the end of current period of suspension at the end of June but frankly I think it's probably wishfull thinking.

It will be down to when Spain opens it's borders to non residents and I don't see that happening by then, this first 2 weeks of fase 1 of the lockdown easing should hopefully give a clearer picture of how it might pan out going forward.

Yes, like you I think that Brittany Ferries are acting more with hope than confidence offering these dates but we can only hope for the best and be prepared. Thanks for the input

If they are anything like the Airlines they are taking bookings to get cash in their accounts and will then cancel closer to the sailing date and offer you a voucher for future credit rather than a refund.

Yes, they have made that clear on their website.

Hi

That was me. I had the original Resident cards sent to me by a friend who took them to www.postroom.com in Benijofar. I got him to get colour photocopies for me and the total cost was €43. Arrived the next day.

Hope this helps

Neil
