Don't know how practical this is for you, but our routine is for me to drive with my partner into the short stay pick up/drop off (10 mins free) outside departures. She gets out, I drive off and park nearby, usually the restaurant car park just before Torrellano.

Previously my partner could meet the visitor at the arrivals gate, now she meets them outside Costa Coffee in the short stay where she was dropped off; the visitor needs to be told to come to departures level and exit the building. Then she phones me, I drive back and pick them up, job done.

Not sure if this helps but the procedure I use is to do the reverse of dropping people off. I arrange to pick up in the free (15 mins max) parking area by Costa Coffee at departures. I wait in a service area on the A-70 until I get a phone call to say they are ready to be picked up, google map link follows: (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Restaurante+AG+Express+(Direcc.+Alicante)/@38.296866,-0.5824379,13.75z/data=!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0xd63a88558908cf9:0xc762b5f65ec3ada7!2s03187+Los+Montesinos,+Alicante!3b1!8m2!3d38.0277269!4d-0.744964!3m4!1s0x0:0x7d8910770384c6fc!8m2!3d38.308014!4d-0.6058037)

It takes approx. 7/8 minutes to get to the pick-up point from the service area. This has worked quite well when picking up my wife or grandchildren.

Regards,

Bob

The free parking has been reduced to 10 minutes.

Hi Fox93,

I took a friend to Alicante airport 2 weeks ago and parked in the multi-storey car park on site.  She doesn't walk well, so I helped get her cases from the car park to the pay machines hall, across the bridge and up the escalator to Departures, where I wasn't allowed to go any further.  When I got back to the pay machines, it cost me €1.20.  In your position, I'd suggest meeting your visitors in the pay machines hall.

Kind regards,

Kim

I do likewise and park near the airport and wait for the phone call to pick up opposite Costa Coffee, note the free waiting time is reduced to 10 minutes.

You can park outside departures for 10 minutes. Tell whomever your picking up to be outside Costa coffee and you can collect them there, parking for the 10 mins is free. Good luck.

You're absolutely correct, the multi-story carpark, which I have used on various occasions, is certainly best if you have to meet someone in the arrivals area or indeed if that is your preferred method. But did you have to show such little respect for those of us that offered up an alternative procedure, it had little if anything to do with your ‘really 2€’ – we were just trying to help.
