Hi Lynne,

Not yet.  My private insurer confirmed that vaccinations are not included in our policy.  I tried to call the private hospital we use, Quiron in Torrevieja, but couldn't get through.  Your question, however, is timely, as we're going down that way today, so I will call into Quiron ...

...(assuming I can get in without an appointment) and see whether the information desk can advise on availability and cost.

Kind regards,

Kim

Good luck!

I have an appointment at end of month if you cannot get in today.

Please post any information....I'm sure you will.

Have a good day.

Lynne

Hi Lynne,

I went to Quiron Hospital yesterday and they said the 'flu vaccine is free, but they charge €9 for the nurse to administer it.  You have to take a prescription with you from your GP.

This morning, I called my GP's clinic, Dr Ballester in Ciudad Quesada.  They told me I have to go to the Farmacia and, if they don't have it in stock, ask them to order it.  I have to get the name of it (the precise name changes each year), tell my GP and he will write a specific prescription - they're not allowed to just write "flu vaccine".  When I have it, I make an appointment with my GP and they administer it at a charge of €10.

Of course, people who have free healthcare in Spain, by way of an S1, can make an appointment with their Centro de Salud, although older neighbours of ours were proactively contacted by their GP.

Kind regards,

Kim
