Hi, we've just obtained our residencia, and now looking to register with a doctor here in Los Montesinos. I know that the process would be similar in any town, therefore would I just walk into the doctor's office with a padron and proof of residencia, or is there a more formal approach, ie obtaining a social security number? My wife is retired, and I obtained residencia on the back of her S1, so we we should both be covered for health care.

Not a doctor, proceed to any "Centro de Salud/Ambulatorio" of the SS.SS. (Spanish Public Health Service).

If the S1 hasn't changed from its original format, it tells you that you have to go to INSS to register.

Thanks for your replys.

If I'm correct, I've checked INSS in torrevieja is Calle Urbano Arregui.

So I go with the s1 and residencia (I'll take the padron, not sure if needed), they will then give me a form which I take to the Centro de salud.

This all sounds easy for Spain, but sounds good. I'll try next week.

Again thanks for the info.

Gary

Hi Gary, we had to go to INSS Torrevieja first then to register at our Centro de Salud we took Padron, Residencia, passports, NIE and then they still insisted on the EHIC as well!

Thanks Cheryl, I'd never had thought to take my ehic card, fortunately I have one.

Hi again Cheryl,

I've just been told that I need an appointment  for the inss.

No one else has mentioned that, so I just wanted to check if you had an appointment, or just called in?

thanks

Gary

Gary, most people don't bother and just take a deli ticket (turno) and wait their turn. If you want to reduce the waiting time, you can make a prior appointment:

In the Valencia region at least there is an Android app for making an appointment called GVA +Salut

No idea about CrApple.
