Hi, we are travelling back to Ireland by ferry next week and intend to drive to within about 1-2 hours of Bilbao and then go to the ferry port the next day for the 12 noon ferry.  Hence, I am looking for any hotel recommendations for the Saturday night please.  Ideally about 1-2 hours outside of Bilbao on the side of a motorway or very near, coming from the Zaragoza direction, which we prefer (i.e. not Madrid).  I have looked online but most seem to be closed!  Does anyone have any reliable suggestions please?  With many thanks

Conveniently located  and afforadble: Ibis Budget at Arrigorriaga - Exit 1 on AP 68. Save tolls and avoid possible snow problems by using the Madrid itinerary.

Thank you.  I have to admit to being a nervous driver and find the non-Madrid route easier.  Thanks for your help, which is much appreciated,  all the best.  Cath

The Hotel Bed4U in Tudela. Secure parking compound at rear, nice room, excellent breakfast, close to main roads.

Admittedly it is a couple of years since we stayed there, but we were very happy with the Puente Colgante Boutique Hotel at Portugalete  As its name implies, it overlooks the famous carrier bridge and is within easy reach of the ferry.  Of course, you'll find it on Tripadvisor.

Good luck.

I'm Irish and hope to do that trip sometime.  Let us know how you get on.  You should keep a diary and share it with the Forum.
