White wash or Lime wash

Has anyone any experience of using this product, I know it's far more common in the Andalusia region but I've read that it's much better for using on older buildings because it's breathable and the lime actually becomes part of the structure unlike paint which tends to flake. I've been doing a bit of online research but it's always better to hear from someone who's familiar with the product.
