Hi, Anyone here hold a basic Payment acct with Banco Sabadell?
We've been told that we're overqualified for this type of acct.? Whatever that means? 🤔
We are in the process of purchasing a holiday home here and just need the bare minimum of bank accounts to pay bills etc.

The Basic Payment acct looks ideal for this.
We have no need for credit/debit cards and certainly not €35 per quarter bank charges! 🥺

Muchos gracias 😁

I believe these accounts are for people who have minimum finances available to them and the fact that you are buying your property automatically rules you out.
If you search this site for Banking and Finance under everywhere this has been discussed many times.
Banco Sabadell get a lot of recommendations as they have many branches (Spanish banks usually charge for withdrawing cash from an ATM at any other bank) and English is spoken in most of them. It is also easy to operate the account on line.

Cheryl, have you been looking at CAB? They say the accounts are for those on minimum income, but that's not what the law itself says.

I feel like I'm being duped into an account with high charges and in our case unnecessary attachments included, i.e. credit cards, debit cards etc.

Like any other salesmen I suspect bank clerks have commission on their minds.

Hello Jim, no, it was just my understanding, I wasn't certain which was why I suggested searching the site. It sounds as if individual banks are applying their own rules, whatever next!

I agree Cheryl. I can't see any Spanish bank voluntarily complying with the law if it isn't going to generate a profit for them. And unfortunately I've not yet seen any evidence of anyone persuading a bank to comply with the law and give them a basic account.

So now I'm thinking do I really need a Spanish bank account?

I'll be a non-resident with a holiday home. Is it possible I can pay all bills by direct debit, transfer or whatever from my French bank account or UK account?

I am currently resident in France.

Hi Paulsav,

The application process for the Wefferent Account at Cajamar seems to indicate you have to be resident in Spain. Could you confirm you were able to open this account as a Non Resident please

Thanks

Thanks

Yes I can confirm you dont have to be resident to get free online banking with Cajamar. If non resident you must open in branch as white paper nies not recognised for online applications. Please read all my replies to other postings with tips on the subject.

Regards

Pauline.
