When I’m in Spain, I usually use my UK mobile and WhatsApp to contact friends in the UK, however, this is of course dependent on my actually being in my property in order to do so. It’s also not been a problem to use it in the “normal” manner when out and about.

With the dreaded B***** looming large, I’m guessing it might be a good idea when I’m back in September, to organise getting a Spanish mobile phone number. As I’ve always been “on contract”, I’ve no idea if there is such a thing as a PAYG sim still around. I don’t need data necessarily, just something to make calls to Spanish numbers

Anyone got a better/different solution🤪🥂

I am with Lebara, 10€ a month gets me 500 Spanish or International minutes and 5gb of data, Spanish phone plans generally do not include texts so they are extra. The data allowance is enough to enable me to use WhatsApp when away from my apartment. Also through their English language website can top up with separate funds for the rare times I need to call a Spanish company or business that uses a business rate number although once you contact them by email request a standard rate number.

Thanks John, that’s very useful. Is that a monthly “contract” rather than PAYG 🤪🥂

Technically it is a monthly contract but is really good value particularly as I use the phone while back in the UK or on holiday across Europe at no added expense.

As mentioned in the original post with the dreaded B***** looming, would you think it might be affected by roaming charges?

There is no reason to believe that there will be any changes as over fifty countries are on the list for international calls.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Exactly what I did, originally had a somewhat basic handset but upgraded while back in the UK and the staff in O2 put my Spanish sim in and transferred all my contacts and apps to the new handset with my original Spanish number.

Just had a look at the Lebara website; I think that will do me nicely. Kicking myself as I gave away our “old” iPhones a few months ago.😡🤪🥂

"There is no reason to believe that there will be any changes as over fifty countries are on the list for international calls."

International calls are not roaming and there is no guarantee that charges for that will not return.
