The exchange rate EUR to GBP has been wobbling around between 1.20 and 1.10 for the last ten years, with a few exceptional spikes in both directions.  So, no I don't remember when it was 1.76. It's now 1.14, which is where it was before the recent 'mini-budget'.

Incorrect. Again.

In 2015 I bought at 1.38€/£1.00. It had been consistently high v £sterling.

It was after the Referendum in 2016 that the rate plunged.

But we all know facts are variable when it comes to defending Brexit!

I don't know from where you're getting your information, but when my friends bought in Spain in 2015, they obtained a rate for their house purchase of €1.43 to the Pound, and a year later in May 2016, we obtained €1.32 to the Pound.

Kimmy11, I remember when were in the EU that the exchange rate was .99 to the pound. I believe it was 2009/10

Hi Care4,

I think the problem is that people may muddle the spot rate with the tourist rate.  I remember on one of our visits to see my in-laws in Spain, the rate we bought was almost parity, but if you look at the historical data, you'll see that the lowest exchange rate over the last 22 years was 29 December 2008, when the Pound dropped to 1.02945 against 1 Euro:

Kind regards,

Kim
