Looking at a post on FB,saying how quiet it was in Oliva, then realised it was from 2007!

So, before I make a huge decision on moving there, please can I ask residents there if Oliva is the place for me to find peace and quiet, for my permanent retirement home.

Thanks to all those who have kindly assisted me previously; all advice  is very  much appreciated.

It depends what you mean by quiet.

The old town is reasonably quiet, apart from a few noisy immigrants frequenting the bars targeted at them.

The N332 is anything but quiet.

The new town is a working town and consequently busy during working hours.

The beach/port area is busier than busy July and August, but you could fire a gun through it in winter.

Thanks for that.

At present, I live in the East Yorkshire countryside but need to down size dramatically. I am used to being surrounded by farm land, which is wonderful but no shops, pubs or anything...not even a bus now since the service was axed.  It is no good at my age.

So, I know Spain will be a great change.

I think it will be August before I can come and have a good look at a few areas.

I apologise for picking people's brains and thank you again.

You're welcome!

Lots of other towns in the vicinity, all with their own character. It depends on what sort of a place you want to live in.

Anything else you need to know just ask.

Hi Linda

I've been in living in Oliva since March and it is a lovely place to live.It is a working town but it has three different parts to it, the old town, the working town and the beach area and all have a different feel. The old town is very quiet and beautiful, the working town has the paseo running through it with little local shops and cafes and although busy is nothing like a city or larger town and has a lovely feel to it. The beach area has been quite so far but I love it. Also behind the old town and the N road there are some lovely houses / villas/ flats and they defiantly have an out the way feel where all you hear is birds yet accessible to the town. The only thing i would say public transport around the town really is non existent apart from a little bus that runs from the playa into town. You can get the bus to denia, valencia, alicante and gandia several times a day. It is an absolutely lovely area and although its not a 'british' tourist area, there is an expat community  if you are looking for that so i would suggest you come and spend time as it depends what you are looking for and then you could explore the surrounding areas? There is a facebook group called Oliva Tatler that you might look to join to get information and also the Oliva U3A https://u3aoliva.wildapricot.org/ .

hope this helps :-)

Hello again,  Katmac

Your post gave me an insight into the different areas of Oliva. I spent some time exploring the Costa Blanca, a year or two back but I saw so many places, in retrospect I can not remember where was where. So, I hope in a couple of months to visit Oliva and have a good look around. It will still be the busy season, which will be useful for me.

I might be able to persuade a friend to come with me, initially, but in essence, I will be living by myself. At 71, it is a bit of an adventure, to say the least.

It will be good to meet some English people, but I am eager to improve my very basic Spanish and to experience the Spanish lifestyle. The U3A is appealing.

I write as a hobby and have had a regular column in a local newspaper for some years.I hope to find an outlet to tell of my experience of moving to another country, by myself at my age. I should have a story to tell at the end of it.

Once again, many thanks for your help. I may well contact you again, nearer my planned visit, to enquire if you could recommend any basic accommodation and taxi service from the nearest Beniconnect dropping off point, which I believe is Denia.

Kind regards

Linda n
