As the EHIC only covers emergency treatment, I'd expect you to have to go to Emergencias at your nearest hospital.

Some of the larger medical centres may be able to handle the paperwork involved in an EHIC, but the only person I know of who went to a medical centre with an EHIC was told to go to the hospital.

Public hospitals only, not private.

Never heard of needing health insurance only EHIC and passport when I was hospitalised for 10 days 2 years ago. Maybe depends on luck of the draw who deals with you.

Just a word of warning. The EHIC is for emergency treatment, but some health centres will accept it for routine treatment. If Valencia salud then claim the costs back from the NHS, the NHS would be entitled to pass the bill on to the individual who mis-used the EHIC.

I’ve received treatment in the past at the Health Centre in Pilar with no problems.  I was even sent to Torrevieja hospital for an X-ray. It did help to have a Spanish lady with me to translate and to explain things to reception.  This was using my EHIC card.
