Hi Everyone

I really wasn' t sure which category this fits into, so I put it in General Discussion.   It is now the middle of August, but it is still very hot.  I was thinking of buying an a.c. unit but my intention is to eventually move so I do not really want to spend a lot of money.   This would be for my lounge area.   Can anyone recommend a PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT, as this would save me a fortune and tied me over and keep me cool in the oncoming weeks.

Hi Villas. Sound like the perfect machine for creating damp patches on your walls.

Hi Jim, I would imagine if incorrectly used & for extended length of time, yes.

But I use mine when needed (during hot, low humid days) & when I like the windows open, rather than using an air-con unit (where the windows need to be closed). I imagine (dependent on usage of course)as it deposits filtered, fine chilled (iced if one wishes) vapour, less than boiling a kettle of water or two). & no, I have no damp patches on my walls.

The unit I use above has a timer & an off switch where it may be used as a normal fan.

‘’DE-HUMIDIFIERS’’ that’s why they take the water out" - correct. I had boats years ago & they do just that.

We & Jim are (were) discussing "air-cooler humidifiers" ( the opposite) which place water vapour in as a cooling aid. (compared with air-con).

I like mine. (as described above post)

Quite right Sir, & that is why I posted, "As an alternative, consider" (Tue Aug 11, 2020 6:21pm). I have used both (all).

Oh, Hope this helps.(& the OP.)

Angeldust...I had a good quality portable aircon unit but eventually had to sell it on as it was to noisy!!

Don't forget the portable aircon units have a rather large diameter exhaust pipe that has to be directed outside either through an open window or door so although "portable" it will be confined to certain areas of your room......that is something to consider.
