Been asked to put this as a new subject.

Due to the rise in respiratory diseases which is overwhelming some hospitals, especially Valencia, Alicante and Villa Joyosa, the Valencian Authority has reintroduced the mandatory use of facemasks in medical centres and hospitals as of today under order SND/776/2023 reinstated from 05/01/2024.

They will be mandatory in following circumstances

  • Symptomatic people when in shared spaces
  • Professionals who care for symptomatic cases
  • People who work in Intensive Care Units and Units with Vulnerable Patients
  • In hospital emergencies or primary care
  • In places where patients and families are concentrated (Primary Care waiting rooms, hospital consultations,...).

This is due to the increase of cases to 1,501 per 100,000 inhabitants and over a 200% increase in flu cases.

You may also be interested that flu and covid vaccines are now given to all who request them and, from Monday 8th, an appointment will not be necessary. Simply turn up and ask for one.

Thanks Marcliff 👍

I recently had my Flu and Covid vaccinations at Rojales health centre.  I missed my original appointment at the Centre for the 3rd Age, but turned up on spec at the medical centre a week later and the nurse did them straight away.  Great service.

Kind regards,

Kim

In addition to the above sensible advice & implemented vaccination & mask protection, also use common sense, regarding restraint regarding avoidable contact, travel, Xmas kisses etc) & how the sustainable " runny-nose syndrome" still prevails. V

I was at our Benidorm health centre this morning and,  although people were walking through the centre not wearing masks, they were given one on entry to the examination rooms.

No-one was asked to wear masks on entry to the Farmacia.

I expect that the mask order may take a few days to get through to everyone.

As an update, Murcia will be making the use of facemasks in health centres and hospitals mandatory as from tomorrow, 6th.

Pharmacies are not affected by this ruling in any of the three regions, Catalonis, Valencia and Murcia, at this time.

The Min of Health has asked for this to be brought in throughout Spain and a decision will be made on Monday. They are not required anywhere else but are advised if you have any underlying health problems and congregate in large crowds like markets etc.

Also emphasised that this is mainly due to the large increase in flu cases and not covid which as risen but nowhere near as much as flu.

I recently went into a farmacia in Almoradi and there was a notice on the entrance door advising that masks were mandatory.

Here we go again …. Discomfort of face masks

This step is one which we’ve never taken in the past for flu and colds

Covid has caused everybody to overreact to heavy colds which most Brit’s are well accustomed too. I’ve just recovered from a very runny nose etc

I understand the caution but here we go again .., this will cause panic in some people … the return of covid 😩

🤞🤞🤞🤞to everybody

Kay, some people panic about not wearing a mask. It is in medical locations only at the moment, which in reality for most of us means no time at all. I don't like wearing a mask, who does, but it's not a big deal really.

I do agree that before covid masks wear rarely seen in Europe but I suspect it will take some years for people to return to how it was pre-covid. Meanwhile, if your in Spain, keep one handy in case you have a medical emergency😊

Rgds,

Aitch.😊
