My wife and I are here to complete closure of an estate following the bereavement of a family member on my wife's side. This is taking much longer than anticipated.

My wife has been prescribed Amitriptyline 25mg tablets (in the UK) to help her cope with the anxiety and depression involved. Unfortunately, due to our extended stay she is now running low.

Does anyone know if these tables can be purchased from local pharmacy's or will she need to return to UK to visit her GP again?

Thank you.

John.

I have bought prescription drugs over the counter before, but not all the farmacia do. I know that in the la zenia boulevard farmacia it is possible, but where you are might be different? And possibly certain drugs might not be possible, but worth going in and asking where you are, they are normally very very helpful.

Highly unlikely. They are tricyclics and therefore quite dangerous in the wrong hands. Probably need to see a doctor while here and take remaining medicine with you, they may then give you a script.

Yes you can buy them over the counter at any pharmacy, they cost a few euros.

Just to follow up. We got the tablets over the counter at a local pharmacy. Here they were called Trypizol 25mg comprimidos and are the same as in the UK. My wife is glad that she doesn't have to sort out some complicated way of getting them from the UK.

Amazingly they were just €1.48 for 24 tablets. That should do her until our next trip home.

Really thankful for all the advice.

John.
