I am a resident of Spain but find the health care very poor in my area. I should like to know the standard in Rojales and opinions on your nearest public health hospital. Also how far away is it.

Thank you.

Hi Rosemary,

You don't say where you live, but Rojales is in the Torrevieja health region, so primary hospital care is at Torrevieja hospital.  Elche hospital has a good reputation, Vega Baja hospital less so.  However, it's worth noting that Torrevieja hospital was built with the equivalent of what UK citizens would understand as PFI (private finance initiative) funding and that expired at the beginning of this year.  It remains to be seen whether previous standards will continue to be maintained, as ongoing funding returns to the State.

I often wonder, also, whether perception of care standards in Spain is based on what has been experienced in the UK.  For example, aftercare, even within a hospital setting, is usually given by family, rather than hospital staff.

If you feel able to share more detail of your concerns, you may receive more specific responses.

Kind regards,

Kim
