Unless you are in receipt of a state pension, and therefore entitled to an S1, then you will need to take out FULL private insurance which includes cover for existing conditions, no easy or cheap task.
Beware companies promising such cover and read their small print very carefully.

I agree with Movingon, if you are State pension age get your SI from DWP and your wife will be able to piggyback on your cover. If under State Pension age I would suggest you contact Alfonso at Gran Alacan Insurances, see their advert down the right hand side of this page, I can recommend his excellent service and he will talk you through what you need.
Thanks movingon John & Rayd for your help so after 90 days we would need to be residents is this an easy process and does it take long and what advantage is this it's just the prescription tablets am on that's the worry for me getting them on time Thanks again the 3 of you

In your case, Residency is not optional. It is a legal requirement.
To obtain Residency, you need to go through an application process, demonstrating income, healthcare and home ownership/lease.
My wife and I gained our Residency in August last year. We applied in February. We encountered some delays due to the logjam of overdue Brits seeking Residency ahead of Brexit. We also contributed to the delay ourselves by about a month because we were unable to attend an appointment at the Police Authority Office that had been set up for us.
It seems that it is currently very difficult to get an appointment/to progress a Residency application due to Brexit uncertainties.

At present it is 750€ per person each month, after Brexit when the U.K. will be a Non E.U. country the requirement will be 2400€ each.

With regards to prescriptions they are often cheaper to buy in Spain over the counter, than what you pay for the prescription in the UK.

That only applies to England, the rest of the countries in the U.K.get free prescription medicine. However, I take your point as some medicines are very cheap and others more expensive.
