Hi I am looking for an electrician to fit either a smart metre or a counter in our housein the campo in Salinas. Our electric box is situated 500m from the house our electric bills are massive and we need to get to the bottom of the problem. Iberdrola say our bills are correct, but at 300-400€ per month (!) we disagree.

Does anybody know a good electrician ?

At 300e there is definable something very wrong.

1. The meter in the street is faulty.

2. Someone has tapped an illegal connection to your feed. Quite rare but not impossible. This means they are pulling power from your connection which would raise your costs.

1. Ask Iberdola to fit a smart meter.

2. For piece of mind switch your power off at circuit board in your house. Then go and look at the meter in the street. If the meter is still moving or the numbers increase you have an illegal connection

Hi, I would definitely be asking Iberdrola to change to a smart meter which I had done earlier this year. My bills as non resident when not here were 80/90€ per 2 mnths and as our meter is also 500+mts away from our house we too thought someone was stealing our electric. Since the change of meter my bills have drastically reduced, now monthly, I have had bills as low as 23€(leave fridge freezer and outside lights at night on timers on) to a max of 35€ when I was here for 2mnths May and June. This now gives me a more accurate cost if we moved permanently and I cant beleive Iberdrolla think your bills are correct. I too think someone else is using your meter and urge you to do the check as previously recommended(turn your master switch off and view the meter) if it turns over then you are being stolen from. I cant even imagine how much electric consumtion by one dwelling could give bills such as yours(Buckingham Palace ?) Good luck

Pauline.

Hi Ray, as my reply stated to Jan, my meter is beside the pylon also approx 500mts away from my house. I dreaded having to go to the meter cupboard after the smart meter was installed if we had a cut out but as yet it hasn,t happened and I believe theres an app which allows you to reset it remotely though I havent got full info on that.(Is that the app you mentioned which you can view your consumption?)

Hi everyone who took time to reply. Thank you very much. You have all been really helpful and I will look into all the points raised, although we have covered some of them already and still get ‘Buckingham Palace ‘ bills. Maybe I am the Queen and nobody told me!😂

You must refer to an approved Electrician - your provider will give you their names. The meter must be installed within the boundaries of your property. For sure there is a hidden "connection". If found, do not disconnect but call the police for a record. Then, let the provider fix everything and calculate your "losses" and set a claim for fraud and compensation before a court.
