receiving cash for excess usage might be to avoid paying income taxes taxes on the extra money which goes to extra energy payments to the electric company.

I think its fair of the landlord to ask to to pay in cash for extra electricity as if its through Ab&b, they charge commission for the properties advertised on their site and the owner will have a vat tax on what their Ab&B charge is. So they will then be paying more tax on the extra electricity that you may use.

The answer is don't exceed the limit.

Also use more electricity in the off peak hours. Peak hours are during the day and evening 6pm to 10pm. You could find out the exact hours from the supplier. Put the dishwasher and washing machine overnight for example.
