Hello to everyone;

Can you tell me what the medical insurance costs for the new arrivals? Moving from Canada next year...

Thank you so much

Mia

Hi Mia,

There are a lot of variables that affect cost - age, pre-existing conditions, smoker, etc.

When we moved to Spain in 2016, the cost of cover for me (aged 55) and my husband (aged 58), as non-smokers and no pre-existing conditions, was €1,750, i.e. €875 each per year.  This is for Standard Plus cover with ASSSA, but there are a LOT of insurance companies here and you need to compare policies to ensure they cover your specific requirements.

There's an agent who advertises on here, Alonso of Gran Alicant Insurance Services - it may be worth you dropping him an email to obtain a quote.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Mia,

No, I didn't, but many others have.  I obtained quotes from about 6 different companies and then went with the one that best suited our requirements.

From my experience, these "agents" are not the same as what we call "brokers" in the UK; the latter trawl the whole of the insurance market to get the customer the best deal, whereas agents are typically tied to just one or two insurance companies.  That's why I contacted so many different agents myself.

However, if you just want a ball-park figure for your budgeting purposes, Alfonso would be a good place to start.

Kind regards,

Kim
