I wonder if anyone knows the answer to my question. I live in rented accommodation in the UK and have property with a mortgage in Torrevieja which is currently rented out. The tenants have lost their job as a result of the strict measures brought about as a result of the Corona virus tragedy. They have asked if they can have a rent holiday. I cannot afford to do this, but they say that all mortgage holders can have a three month mortgage holiday by the banks. Is this true and if so, how would I go about getting this? Thank you.

Hi John

To be honest John anyone who can answer that question would need to be a board member of either the Bank or Spanish Government.

They don’t even know the details yet.  Laws may need to be changed.

But most Governments are trying to find answers for both renters and mortgage holders

First contact your bank.  They may be able to give you an answer when details are sorted out.
Personally if I had a mortgage or was renting a place, I would think that you would need to pay March repayment at least.

Kind Regards

Maria

Thank you for your kind reply. I will contact the bank and see what they say. John

Its also worth bearing in mind that, even if you can't get a holiday from repayments, the chances of getting another tenant when we can't leave our properties is very remote. If you get definite advice from your bank it would be helpful to others if you would post an update on the forum. Good luck.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thanks for your post. The tenants are good people and as long as I can get my mortgage frozen, then we'll be ok. My next step, I think, is to contact my bank and see if this is possible.

Thank you for your information.

Hi John,

I just wandered if you had gotten any clarity from Sabadell on this? I am in the same difficult situation with my rented property in Spain.

Thanks so much,

Henrietta

I contacted my solicitor who said that he doesn't think that this is possible right now, but he said that things could change in a few weeks and he will contact the bank for me then. Cross fingers
