Hi All

we had planned to buy a property this year but as we all know that had to be put on hold.

My wife and I are looking to buy an apartment and have travel plans to come out June 2020 for 6 weeks ( unless Covid stops us)to view the properties  we like in Torrvieja and the surrounding areas.

The bonus of that is we will then know what the rules are after Brexit

My question is about the NIE. Should i apply for this here in the UK via consulate or wait till i'm in Costa Blanca

Also is it possible to setup a Spanish bank account here in the UK ? or once again should i wait till in country

We are pretty sure that if we find the right place we would like to put an offer in straight away

One last this can anyone recommend a Soliocitor in the Torrvieja area

Any help on this would be much appreciated

Thank you

Gary

I can recommend Lawyers

www.solerberna.com

Based in torrevieja behind Carrefour.

Although there is a separate estate agent office, I chose to use 2 other estate agents, although we did look at property’s with Solerberna, no problems and excellent service from the legal side, everything was set up and completed in 6 weeks.

No point organising NIE/bank before you decide to buy a home.

Your solicitor will do this as part of your home-buying process.

It is generally advised to always use an independent solicitor and not one attached to or recommended by the estate agent.  Such a solicitor will have the sellers interests at heart and not the buyers.
We used, and highly recommend, Abaco in Torreviega .  They handled everything for us via power of attorney whilst we were in the UK ( including NIE, bank account , setting up utility direct debits and Spanish wills) and we continue to use them for our non resident tax returns etc.

Me and the wife are in the same situation. Was going to apply through the consulate in Manchester.  Seems like you have to list a Spanish address.
