It is generally advised to always use an independent solicitor and not one attached to or recommended by the estate agent. Such a solicitor will have the sellers interests at heart and not the buyers.
We used, and highly recommend, Abaco in Torreviega . They handled everythin...Read more...

Hi get your NIE , it's the key to most things , we used sheila garcia, she did everything for us , don't forget €3000 deposit taken , plus 13% for tax's. Depending on your budget villamartin area is brilliant,

Morning
Yes, it is best to use an independent solicitor not connected to the sale. I used my Mother's solicitor who she had for 20 years in Spain and comes highly recommended. She has two offices; one in Torrevieja and the other in Campomar which is more convenient for parking! They are also very reasonably priced, speak English and can arrange your Bank account, NIE etc for your once you have found a property and give you further advice about your needs in Spain.

We have given them power of attorney twice and it has all been fine. I found getting power of attorney cheaper and easier in Spain than in the UK.
I completed my sale in February this year and was very happy using them. Good Luck

Me and the wife are in the same situation. Was going to apply through the consulate in Manchester. Seems like you have to list a Spanish address.
We got our in Embassy in Dublin no Spanish address needed just reason we wanted it. Quick and easy. Haven't got to use it yet due to Covid. When we were last there October 19 estate agent said there was a delay as so many were applying. We got it now and bank account so finger x well get our dream in 2021

Hi Gary,
Our NIE came with our house purchase tbh (through the lawyer, who also transferred standing bills into our name such as electricity and water) and may be useful for the bank, it certainly is for purchasing things such as washing machines etc. It is a part of the doco pack for the current TIE and was required as part of the Padron filing.
We found Sabadell very useful - all documentation in Spanish and English. Good local branches close to us. We started with a basic account but then upgraded as the benefits are improved and they only require a min of 700 euros pcm transferred into it. We don't pay bank charges as we took their house insurance which I have to say is pretty comprehensive. Only our experience of course. Am sure other banks and people's experiences are of interest.
You may wish to set up the currency transfer process through a UK intermediary, that was Currencies4You in our case, but there are others. You will receive a better rate than the UK high street banks offer. Once set up and with links to your Spanish bank plus Abagado for the purchase process, when that happens, you are good to go.
Hope this helps. if you need more then we wrote a blog for our friends thinking of doing the same.
Good luck! It is worth it!

Pleased to help. Others helped us so it works all round. Good luck and have fun. Some times the paperchase will drive you nuts, but it is surmountable, and short-lived. It seems like a lot to do, but the system works...and once established isn't too demanding.
