Hi

I enquired yesterday about opening a Bank account and was offered a non resident account as we do not currently have Residencia.

I was told I need to take out their health insurance.

Is this correct?

I currently work in the UK on a 4 weeks on 4 weeks off basis.

We certainly had no such problems when opening our first non resident A/C but I suppose a bank can attach whatever strings they choose.

If however you are a UK PAYE employee, and resident in Spain or in the process of become resident, then currently at least you are entitled to a 'workers S1' from HMRC which will allow you and your dependents access to the Spanish health system meaning that you have no use for private insurance.

Thank you for that very interesting information.

I will check on how to apply.

I didn't realise I could be covered by the UK for health insurance here.
