Hi everyone:-)

I will be buying an apartment in Torrevieja: looking at Centro and Playa de Cura.

My question regards Internet speeds as I often work online.

So in the UK I currently have 200mbps which can fluctuate between 170 and 210 mbps. However, I only really need a guaranteed 100mbps.

Can anyone advise as to the speeds offered by cable companies in Torrevieja?

May thanks :-)

100Mbps = approximately 12.5Mbytes per second which is not particularly fast and which you'll get out of virtually any ISP, maybe even guaranteed.

If you do in fact mean 100Mbytes per second then apart perhaps for some total hardcore gaming I can't think of any activity or occupation whatsoever which demands anything like that speed so curious to know what is it you believe you need it for?

That's  good news:-)

Yes I need a minimum of 100 Mbps (Megabits per second). (No hardcore gaming so far!)

I think my concern is more about the reliability of the connection, i.e. no regular interruptions of any sort. The reason for this is that I do a lot of video- conferencing with Asia and I need to know that the connection is reliable.

So, in fact, your aside, regarding whether the ISP can GUARANTEE a consistent speed is actually  addressing the crux of the matter!

That is what I need to know:-)

(Gosh, just having visions of  myself gaming in  a tent on Playa del Cura  :-)

So any comments of your experience with regard to reliability of connection would be very welcome!

 Thanks so much :-)

The centre of Torrevieja should have fibre optic with speeds up to 300Mb. Have a look at Movistar or Orange. When you have fibre installed it’s usually the technician from Movistar that comes along and checks the line before another provider supplies the box and router. Pricings about 30€ per month for 100Mb. I have Orange it’s very stable.

An occupation and activity that uses 100Mb internet that would be me. “New Media Brat”
I regularly download and transfer build files, multimedia files and video between Alicante and several locations in the UK.

Video conferencing you need a minimum of 1.5Mb upload speeds for Skype. Some of the Adobe online teaching software requires a minimum upload speed of 5Mb. Upload speed should not be a problem with fibre.
