Good evening  I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what to do next!!!!  I along with others had an active discussion on transferring our UK Driving Licence to a Spanish one in a small window of time of 6 months last year (thanks to Marcliff who step by step made this process easier).  I was absolutely delighted when I eventually received an appointment to exchange my licence and then a few weeks later got a phone call to say to come and pick my new driving licence up in Cartagena.  Here is were the problem starts when I showed my driving licence to my husband he noticed my DOB was wrong!!!!!! I went back into the Cartagena office to have to wait nearly an hour to speak to someone again, they took the licence off me and give me a temporary licence valid until end of November 2023.  Then on DGT website it said the licence was in the Post Office on 6 August we then went there and was told they are never left at a Post Office.  So off we went again to Cartagena to be told that I cannot do anything until the temporary one expired.  As previously said this has now  expired at the end of November 2023.  Having driven to Cartagena 4 times with no success I decided to e mail them to my surprise I got a reply saying I needed to make an appointment so from November to now I have checked every day to get an appointment with no success.  I have recently been told as I do not have a driving licence or a temporary one I am not allowed to drive.  Sorry this is a bit long winded but can anyone advise what I can do now to get my driving licence  so I can now legally drive in Spain again.  Thanks  Gillian

If you install the MiDGT app then if you have a valid licence it will appear in that and if does then legally that's all you need to show police if challenged, you do not need to carry or show the card.

If it is there then you can either report it lost or stolen and apply for a replacement, or just wait until renewal time and get the error corrected then.

If you get stopped and the error is noticed then just feign shock and surprise.

In hindsight it might have been better to have ignored the DoB error and feign the shock and surprise then.

BTW it's true that without a licence or the temporary paper you cannot drive at all.

Thanks for your reply.  I now feel I should have ignored the DOB issue as I am at the point I have NO licence and NO temporary licence so cant drive and cant get an appointment in Cartagena to try and sort it out  really frustrated now!!!!!  Gillian

There is another way to check whether there is a valid licence in your name.

Go to https://www.dgt.es/inicio/ then

Nuestros servicios - Permisos de conducir - Informacion de tu permisos y puntos - Inform y datos de tus permisos

On the next page click Acceso a miDGT where you will be asked for either Cl@ve, an electronic certificate, or be able to request a one time PIN number, for Cl@ve or a PIN, you will require the Spanish mobile phone number you have registered with DGT.

Once you're in then half way down the RH side you will see Verification de certificados

On the next page click Inform de datos actuales

This takes you to a page where you enter your DOB, then click Confirma then Obtener el informe and that should generate a downloadable .pdf of your CoE.

The above is the online version of the MiDGT byt do try the phone route first because if DGT told you that your licence was in the post then you must have one and only lack the means of proving it which the app will provide you with.

If either way shows a valid licence then in the app or online you can report it lost or stolen.
