Hi All, First time posting on this forum..Nice to meet you all. Hoping you can advise me please...

I've had enough of renting cars for over 20 years in Spain.so I'd like to take a car over from Ireland for permanent use in Torrevieja. Its 13 years old..Toyota Corolla 1.4 petrol. I will need to register car ,do ITV test and get Spanish plates. I understand the front lights will have to be adjusted...and possibly the one rear fog light..is this a big job? ..is it costly?.is the process complicated?

I have a property in Torrevieja(not a resident) but we haven't been able to go over as much as we'd like to...hoping things will change soon..

Also do i need a Spanish driving licence to drive a Spanish registered car please?..are there any good sites out there that would be helpful to me...sorry for all the questions..need to make sure it's worth my while..

Thanks Declan.

Hi Kevin ,

Having driven  from Ireland for many years we decided to do the same in 2019 . We had a Toyota also 2015 . The process of changing to Spanish plates is simple enough and all in all cost about 500 euro . We used a gestor across from the ITV station in Torrevieja who did everything for us as well as taking it for ITV which is the first thing that needs to be done . Unless you are going to live here permanently you dont need to apply for Spanish license

Hi Declan, I used Spanish-Number-Plates to put my UK car onto Spanish plates, it would be worth asking them for a quote. They handled all the paperwork and changed the lights as necessary. My car needed replacement headlamp units as they could not be adjusted for driving on driving on the other side of the road.

Hi Declan

I had it done in 2019 and from memory I would say it was around 1200euro, the headlights and the rear fog lamp included (they added 500+euro to the cost). Not cheap but still worth doing as the car was in the family from new and I got it at the part-exchange cost.

All I had to do was turn up with the car and the vehicle docs, they took care of everything  new lights, all paperwork, ITV test,  fitting the new Spanish number plates when they arrived.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Yes, always worth getting a few quotes. Good luck.
