From past experience, we never hired for a six week period as I don’t think it was even a consideration. I booked for 3/4 weeks, booked for the date we returned the car and picked up another one. It was a bit of an inconvenience but was worth it financially.
Have you looked at DO YOUSPAIN.COM? It’s a brokerage and offers you all the various hire car companies vehicles from the cheapest to the most expensive. This is HIGH season so expect to pay top dollar...no way around it. An automatic car will be more expensive too.
Do you actually need a car? Check the price and then decide if you could hire for a shorter period. There is an airport bus which runs on the hour to and from Alicante to the centre of Torrevieja.
Be aware that carhire companies will encourage you to buy their extra insurance. If you decide not to take it, photograph the car before leaving the airport and when you return it. We have been duped into paying for minor damage which we never caused. Don’t even consider buying the extra insurance from DOYOUSPAIN.com as the car hirefirms are only interested in selling their own product Do not even consider using DICKMANNS IF YOU DON’T PAY FOR THEIR EXTRA INSURANCE,THEY WILL TAKE €1400 from your card and hold it for the duration of your contract. Others do too.
We were sick and tired of the shabby way we were treated and the massive sums we spent for the pleasure of having a car at the door, we bought a new car 2 years ago and wish we had done so years ago!
I wish I could help you but that’s the best I can do for now.
Don’t expect to be getting any bargains. Be prepared to do with a little less!
Good luck.
