We drove from Lincolnshire, stopped in Calais, Pamplona and across at Bennicassim. Then down to Mojacar. Then back 10 days later. Via Huesca and Cain to Calais. Even though we broke the journey up we would never do it again. To sit for long even though we had two hours breaks. The heat melted the dash and we had screen cover! It was wonderful to see the country but we have returned  to flights and hire cars and if is definitely cheaper.

Well that is good to know . I’ve never used Dickmanns either, and I certainly won’t now. They are very local to me though . Thanks for your advice, you have to be so careful with these car hire places

I think they all try it on, I used firefly last yr, returned car late had 6am flight and car booked to return at 4am but left it at 10pm just after office closed but took photos of car in perfect condition and waited the night in airport, and they charged me 40€ for an extra days use. Despite photos and screenshot of time at 10pm on photos they ignored all my proofs. Took 3 mnths to get my refund only after I emailed Hertz(own firefly) saying they were damaging Hertz reputation and I,m goung to Costa Blanca News with photos. I dont want to hire ever again , it makes me anxious all the time I,m hiring. Its too much stress.

Pauline.

We have owned our house in la siesta for over 30 years and have always used Torrecar. They will make everything quick, easy and cheap.  We wouldn’t use anyone else.

I've just looked at Torrecar and gone through the booking enquiry process.  The price quoted (before I fill in all my personal details) is 160 euros "Final Price", with no mention of everything covered type insurance.  I wonder if they add this on when you go for the car?

What is your experience of this, and where is their desk (do they actually have one or is it a case of meet someone standing around and be taken to the car?)

Hello,

The price you have found on their web site is inclusive of insurance. However, I always pay for extra insurance with covers every eventuality. The extra cost is approx 5 euros a day. You will meet the rep at the yellow post box on the top level of Alicante Airport. The car will be full of fuel fuel. On your return to the airport you will leave the car on level 4 or 5 also full of fuel. There will be no hidden extras or suprises. If you PM me I will give you my contacts email address rather than use the on line system.

We drove down " slowly " through France and Spain last year when we moved from the UK to Marina Alta. We used booking.com to find accommodation, I have used it befor on motorcycle touring holidays. Never needed to book more than one day ahead. Ended up staying in some nice places, never any issues, and it is very flexible. I wouldn't get worried about a fully planned journey, it makes for stressful travelling. Enjoy the journey :)
