Spanish Driving license catagories

You have to ask when exchanging but they don't always tell you that!

I had up to D1E and asked for them to be transferred which I got but even though the licence was for 5 years for groups above B and BE I only got 3 years as that it the period of validity for the medicals required to keep/renew them.

As I didn't really need those groups I didn't take the medicals so they lapsed.

Don't know if there is anything you can do about it now, you'd have to ask DGT or whomever you used for the exchange.

Yes, happened to me as well. The "upper" categories disappeared and the chap who did the medical told me I should have asked specifically. I would have had other categories added but for a shorter period. 

Not sure if you can add them afterwards but worth asking DVLC for a confirmation of driving categories.

Ours arrived by normal post in the box and not even signed for.

You can check on the status of your licence at this link which will tell you how far it is along the line or when it was posted.

You just need your NIE and date of birth

It occurs to me that if they got your dob wrong, then may also have an incorrect address. If so, I don't know what would happen!

However, you may be able to view the license by downloading the app "mi DGT", preferably onto your mobile phone. To the best of my knowledge, the police will accept that as valid.

Btw - be careful to enter your dob  in the correct format, IE get the day and month in the expected order!

Hi  Thanks again for coming back to me.  My DOB was 4 years out, their mistake, they did apologise and said it had to be redone and would be available for collection at the end of September.  Will try downloading the app, if successful will let you know  Gillian

Hi Gillian - puzzling!

How did you register on the app? iClave, digital certificate or personal details? 

Also, you were hopefully given a piece of paper allowing you to drive for a certain period of time after surrendering your UK license? It might be worth asking for an extension on that date - but I've no experience on that matter!

It might be worthwhile paying for a bilingual expert to help you sort this out.
