I forgot to say the unit supplied by Mark is wireless and looks like a smoke detector so people would not think of tampering with it and it can be set for different times if it senses no movement it will turn the A/C off after 30 mins or an hour etc. .

The Ecosense  sensors offer different models. The original basic sensor is wireless but may not be compatible with all units. The next model is hard-wired and involves removing the cover and interrupting some power circuits. The instructions need to be followed to the letter, but the sensors are supposed to be 100% compatible.

The remotes that restrict the temperature and fan settings can be bypassed by just buying a universal remote.

Pre loaded card/coin meters can cause problems by suddenly pulling the power. It's best to have an orderly shutdown and you may notice most units don't stop straight away once the stop signal is sent.

I'll PM you some other options that are more cost effective.

In agreement over the likelihood of tenants defeating the remote control wireless option and battery failure could cause irritation for tenants during a let period.

Professionally installed ,Hard wired systems , much more reliable and pretty much fit and forget ,
