I'm considering installing 1-2 Solar panels onmy Roof Sun Terrace as it may be cheaper to heat water, etc? as Spanish Electricity continues to climb in costs.  Can anyone point me in the right direction to somone who can purchase and install this for me and is it still very expensive?

I queried with Iberdrolla but they quoted a nonsensical figure - Obs not in their best interest to steer customers to cheaper amenity bills!

Are you talking about simple solar water heating or electricity generation to run an immersion heater?

Our current neighbours, who recently moved here after 40 years in a large isolated finca, decided to have solar panels installed for exactly the same reason as you; having run their finca with them. They quickly decided that by the time the ancillary ‘bits’ were installed, sorry, don’t know, but whatever was necessary to actually end up with usable hot water!, that it was financially no longer viable as the initial capital cost was far too much.

Yea - Iberdrolla suggested somewher in the region of 5000euros for 1 small panel - why?

In a country that has sunshine all year round doen't it make sense to harness that 'green' energy

Agreed, that does sound expensive. Our neighbours’ cost quoted was half of that, for all that was required. However, I do understand that ancillaries such as necessary extra pipework for example, may increase the basic cost.

They asked a local firm to this area - SILVASOL - who are a large heating engineering outfit with a first class reputation. I have seen their signs outside this immediate  area, so it may be worth looking them up online. We have used them for servicing (our house is entirely electric, we have no gas) and also to supply and install a replacement heat pump for our hot water as the original finally died after some 15 years. They were efficient, not cheap but reasonable, very friendly and helpful and do have multilingual staff.

Try this website they seem to supply what you need to heat water but there must be others out there

  • Solar hot water systems use the heat from the sun whereas solar electricity uses sunlight. Solar Photovoltaic (PV) is a technology that uses sunlight to generate direct current (DC) electricity. Solar thermal systems, also known as solar hot water systems, create hot water and use a completely different technology.solar hot water panels usually have copper pipes running through them filled with water ,the water is simply heated by the sun and the hot water flows into a storage tank

You will find there is far more solar panels in the land of endless rain, (UK), than the land of endless sun, and its not by accident. Whilst I do not know if it is true, I have been told Politicians scratch the backs of the utility companies and their desire to not lose profits to free energy, in return said Politicians have jobs waiting for them when they leave politics. https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2016/04/16/solar-panel-law-in-spain-could-cost-thousands-of-independent-energy-producers-millions-in-fines/
