That's the answer I needed and hopefully like a lot of other people are in the same position as me and my wife.
We have stayed in Spain on the grounds that Spain and France can change their travel plans and routes whenever they wish, and totally understand why.

I can agree with all that has been said but if you are not a resident or citizen of the country you are in it makes sence to return to you country of habitual resident none of us knows how this will pan out or what the outcome will be for each individual, that is thinking the strain that these people must put on their local health service,unfortunately most of these people are of retirement age or more,you will also have seen.in the Spanish press the discussion about the treatment for 80 plus year old patients with the Covid - 19 Maybe now some have left it a little late as other Northern Europeans are catching us up.

It's way too risky traveling via road through Spain and France.
I called our Embassy in Alicante and they even admitted it could be an issue if Spain and France change their travel guidance and that includes the Ferry or Channel Tunnel.
Our government want all UK nationals home but would not commit for a safe journey.
We even tried to get flights(leaving my car here at parents house here) out but were canceled also

Appreciate your input and that was also my thought process but with little doubt in my head.
My family are residents here and have a spare apartment thankfully.
