I’ve attached a photo of an area in my holiday house, that desperately needs addressing!!! Can anyone offer advice?? I’m a very good DIYer at home in the UK and so know what products I may use there, but am stuck as to what I should buy here???? We last came to the house beginning of March this year, and knew we would need to do it soon, but now we’ve arrived (today) shock horror!!!!! Help!!! Please!!!!

Hola.

I read your plea this morning and thought somebody would have replied with advice but find that is not the case.

I am no diy expert but looking at the photograph it strikes me that you have damp.

Have the tiles fallen off?   If so, why?  If your wall is damp/ wet, then the tiles could fall off.

What is on the outside of this area?  Is it a roof?   Could water be penetrating the wall?  If there are tiles on the other side, check to see if there is an area where rain or water could be coming in.  If this is the case, get it sorted out immediately. Perhaps you could seal the area with silicone.

When you have solved the problem, you are going to have to get the tiles replaced. Before dong any of that, get a dehumidifier and dry the room completely. Once dried, mix upva adhesive one part adhesive and 5 parts water and stir well together. Take a brush and cover all walls with this solution. This should seal your walls.

Once done, you are almost there. Retile, plastering may be required too.

Second point.   Have you contacted your insurance company yet!  They will send an accessor out to your house and once agreed that you are covered for this disaster, they will possibly send a tradesman out to repair the damage.

I have no idea if this advice will help you but I sincerely hope it will.

Please update with the outcome.

Good luck.

Grannyrose.
