Hi Louise,

The "autonomo" contributions (fixed for the first year) are for being self-employed, the equivalent of UK NI contributions and they entitle you to Spanish state healthcare (not private).

If you work as an employee in a salon, for example, you need to ensure that you're employed with a contract, where your employer pays the NI contributions.  However, in the current climate, with Spain's usually high unemployment rate even worse, it will probably be more difficult to get employment with a contract, as Covid-19 has impacted independent businesses quite badly.

Kind regards,

Kim

We have been in Torrevieja for 3 months now. We live in Centro. I love the beaches and the promenade. The people all seem to be lovely but there does seem to be a shortage of Brits just now. I don't know if Brexit has sent a lot home or if it's just winter. The shops are pretty good and the bars are great too, when they are open.

On the negative side, as in all cities, the streets are full of traffic fumes. The buildings are nearly all apartment blocks. It reminds me of London without the lovely architecture.

There is nowhere that I know of where you can let your dog off for a run and the people are scared of big dogs.

It's great for a sun, sea and sand person but we're going to move somewhere a little more rural.

Hope this helps.

Torrevieja town/city is not where you would choose to live. I imagine your parents would like a garden/ patio. An apartment in central Torrevieja is perfect for holidays but it wouldnā€™t be my choice for permanent living.

Torrevieja is a peninsula sticking out into the sea with a beautiful coastline all the way around. Itā€™s divided into a north and south. The north has been lived in for years and over the years as grown and now reaches La Mata( was a small fishing village). This side is closest to the airport. There are stunning Sandy beaches all along the coast and beautiful coastal walks.

I honestly believe you could be very successful if you open a beauty salon in our area. In normal times, we are a mix of various nationalities Spanish, Swedish, Norwegian,Irish,English, Ukrainian and many more. There is a shopping centre near us called TORREMARINA which boasts a Mercadona, bank, dentist, opticians, fiscal/accountants, 2 superior restaurants and a huge Chinese one too which is generally packed in normal times( upper floor and outside eating area) pharmacy(2 actually) florist, Chinese bazaar, newsagents, shoe shop, tv shop, household soft furnishings and a SIT/FIT exercise gym, also a sushi bar and a knitting shop/ club.  Nearby, there is a newly built church, school/ nursery. Thereā€™s an excellent bus service, 2 bus lines in fact. Itā€™s has a lovely, residential appearance with lots of car parking available outside mist homes. You can walk, cycle safely as the traffic isnā€™t vast. The beach is certainly within walking distance as weā€™ve done it many times. Summer or winter, itā€™s a lovely area and always people about so never ā€œdeadā€ off season.  At night time, thereā€™s no noise as very few rentals in the area so you can go to bed and sleep soundly without being woken by drunks singing and shouting late at night.
our house is on the road side but is on a gated urbanisation with huge swimming pool and lush gardens. We are south facing with a big patio so love sitting outside on the evenings that we are not over at TORREMARINA. Itā€™s perfect. Google and see.

Iā€™d love to see a beauty salon over there as would most other ladies. I hope you find the perfect spot for yourselves.

Hi torrevieja does offer everything on foot , you can buy a apartment with garage for parking but in the summer months it is beyond packed and people park in front of the garage doors ,, when we first started our search we were looking in torrevieja in the end we moved further inland and are very pleased we did we have peace and go to the hustle and bustle when we want it , we stay well away from torrevieja in the summer, everyone isnā€™t the same but consider what you really want.

Best of lu

Hi, my husband and I moved to torrevieja 4yrs ago (67 & 60) we love it, we rented for the first 6 months to have a good look around to see what area we would like to live in. We found a lovely ground floor bungalow 1 bedroom with lovely patio, gated complex with the choice of 3 pools to use in summer months, 4mins walk to los locas beach south facing, near shops bars restaurants and plenty walks and parks for dogs .  Take your time choosing where you want to live, rent first have a good look around as every urbanisation is different. Good luck
