Hi, I have just bought a property in Torrevieja.

Apparently at the moment I am simply classed as  - 'Non- Resident'.

Can someone tell me how do I become classesd as being 'Resident' ... and what paperwork needs to be completed?

Would be grateful for any advice regarding this process.

Well again sincere thanks to Jim Taylor his detailed 'Guide to Spain', and the processes involved when applying for the 'Residency status'....both as for an individual and for family members.

After reading all of Jim's Guide , I now feel much more informed.

However I have to say I find the whole process of obtaining 'Residency' far too complicated for me to do.

I had hoped my moving to Torrevieja would be less stressful than that of the UK 'rat race' lifestyle.....but on the contrary the Spanish system seems to me to be the opposite in reality ! The UK system is far easier to navigate. ( and for example  buying a car in Spain - wow, how much more complicated can you make it ? )

And for Residency - The form filling, the runing about from pillar to post ( no joke in 30degree heat ), and then hoping you have the correct papers ( translated to Spanish ) when you finally reach the front of the queue etc.

And now on top of that the uncertainty of what a no-deal Brexit will mean for retired people such as me ( ex.- Health Care for retired people in doubt ).

Plus on top of that the melt down of the UK £.to the Euro.

Welcome to 'reality' Jan !

Hello Jan, hang in there, there is light at the end of the tunnel. We tried doing it all ourselves and gave up, it was just too much hassle so we used professionals and it was so much easier. Now we are fully enjoying our new life.

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for your post.

You are right...I have decided to give up trying to do this myself.

I came over here as a happy positive person....but the rate I'm going I'll be on anti-depressants shortly ...ha..ha. !
