What I would like to know is did you have to lift chairs, stand on toes or have your weight ridiculed, especially as I've never been fat.

Jammy sod! I got three years, and that was after my doctor signed a statement that I wouldn't suffer a hypoglycemic attack. Margaret also got three years - cancer plus eye problems.

If you read my guide to the DL medical then you'll see that the items a doctor can test for are really extensive.

Of course it varies between test centres, but my experience over several years is that being able to communicate in Spanish definitely helps allay the way a doctor treats you.

Thank you, yes, of course I will do that, my husband had his in a different place but it was too difficult to park so we looked elsewhere.  He had none of those things happen and not many questions, he is older and got a 5 years license.

I did really well on the hearing and steering part, a young woman took that and said I should have 5 years.  He spoke English very well and I too actually do very well speaking Spanish so was no problem there. I felt it was more a power type of thing that felt very bad to me.

"In the U.K. over seventies have to renew their driving licence every three years"

Yes but there is no medical, you self certify.

Have to say most people I've spoken to have reported the Spanish medical to have been far less intensive and intimidating than reported by the OP, few have been fluent Spanish speakers either.

I think you were treated very badly. I have sent you a private message telling you about our simple medicals and where we went.

I was 74 when I last renewed my Spanish driving licence and was given a new one for 5 years.

Yes, thank you, although it was the same for my husband as yourself and he was given 5 years, Carol
