Hi. I keep getting conflicting advise re health care in Spain. The uk pensions offices tell me my S1 is enough to entitle me to free health care if I am resident in Spain. I am applying now for residencia and have been informed by my Solicitor that I need 12 months private health care paid for upfront before I can apply. I am a pensioner reside in Spain with my pension being paid into my Spanish bank account. Can someone with the up to date knowledge please steer me in the right direction. Very grateful for any response.

My understanding is if you are receiving UK state pension and have S1 form you are entitled to healthcare here in Spain.

Sack your solicitor.

An S1 is all you need to prove cover for healthacre when doing a residency application.

She has been sacked, and she came back to me apologising for her mistake. She said she will now be informing all her clients she has given the wrong information to.

Ha I bet.  Thank you for your honest  replies to my questions. Graham. Happy now.

Hi again. My wife has just asked me if she gets cover on the back of my S1. She is 62 and has no cover yet.  Please advise if you get time. Thanx.

You need to talk to the UK. If you request it, a spouse will also be covered by an S1, so it seems you need to request that the S1 be re-issued.

I don't know anyone myself, but one that gets a lot of recommendations is Uma at Get Legal in Spain.
