Your best idea may be to find the email addresses of hauliers in Spain and send them your CV, preferably in Spanish, asking if they have vacancies. It would be helpful if you spoke the language, especially if applying to Spanish companies. Bear n mind that there is already a large unemployment situation here and that permanent employment will be usually given to Spanish drivers. Alternatively, I assume that many of the large UK firms - eg E Stobart - may have links internationally and it may be worth contacting them to see if they have working partnerships with European firms - that at least may give you a hand.

Most of the large companies are likely to be based around commercial areas on the outskirts of the main cities - Barcelona/Madrid/Bilbao/Valencia for example.

There's a big company based between Guardamar and La Marina, next to the N332 at the roundabout by Nancy's night club. Can't remember their name, but you can see their stack of pallets from the moon. They run to UK. I know they've got wagon & drag units, but I'm not sure whether they've got artics or rigids. You could call in and ask them.

Have you got a Spanish licence, Spanish digital tacho card & Spanish CAP (DQC in UK)? I've had the Spanish licence & card, but never did the CPC course in Spain.

It's true that companies favour native Spaniards, but might that company be interested in you if you're happy to run to UK? I don't know.

Hi Garth.

If you are fairly new to Spain, and don't speak Spanish, it might be easier to find someone who regularly helps people with official Spanish stuff (NIE, residencia, padrón etc). Spanish ones are called 'gestors', but there are plenty of expats who specialise in that type of thing. You'll find someone on a local Facebook page. I know someone, but not in your area. Basically you apply to Tráfico and hand in your UK licence and get a Spanish one. I think you will need a medical too. If you go first of all to a clinic where they do driving medicals, they may even help you with the application, and send it to Tráfico for you. They certainly do that for renewals.

Also, you can apply for a Spanish digicard, but that's another story!! Ask me if you want to do that, as I did mine in December.

Driver CPC courses are done by SOME local driving schools. You need to tell them you want to get a Certificado CAP, which stands for (I think) Certificado Abilidad Professional.

For general queries relating to Spain, try the Facebook page Expats in Spain. For more local information, try Buy & Sell Torrevieja, Torrevieja Stuff for Sale, Orihuela Costa Buy & Sell, etc. Someone will advise as to who is best to help you.
