I am very surprised at the amount of people who live here and don't have a spanish bank account. I wonder if it's easy to use foreign bank cards from third countries all the time in the UK.

I do have a Spanish account, but use for other bills, I will use that in future, but so annoying you don't have a choice any more. I bet it's a lot easier in Britain, or was, maybe has something to do with charges?

I suspect it is to do with Brexit as UK banks are no longer in the EU financial zone, ie no longer free movement of goods and financial services. Hence several British banks pulling out of Europe as the relatively few retail customers from UK make it no longer viable.

Hi Jean PSD2 is a new authentication to prevent fraudulent transactions please check out this website

https://www.mypos.eu/en/what-is-psd2-and-how-does-it-impact-your-daily-card-payments

Hope this helps

Hi Jean just a further update PSD2 this is a new way of taking payments via website to make them more secure. Most older websites need to be updated to relfect the new laws so this may be the reason, as you mentioned Mercadona did have a change done on theit website.

Updating websites is a must by law to make them  what we call 3d secure (to try and prevent fraud)

Hope this makes more sense

Gail
