Thinking of buying a property to retire to in the next 2 years. Both 60ish! Is there a wide variety of clubs around the area for newbies from the uk? We like to be out and doing stuff! Any info on what's around at present appreciated.Thanks.

Hello

Very difficult to answer this at the moment.  The pandemic is  still on the increase in this region and social distancing is  still being maintained so clubs/social organisations/trips are not open or operating at all....places also close in July/Aug because of the summer heat.

Some volunteer organisations  rely on long term visitors but combined with the pandemic, Brexit has stopped people being able to stay so long now & some  may never reopen for any or all of the above reasons.

Normally, there is plenty to do for residents depending what your hobbies & interests are but things have changed, so when some kind of normality resumes & closer to when you actually retire, ask again & specify what it is you are looking for.

Cheers

If you give some clues as to which area you will be living and what “stuff” you like doing, we can probably help you further.

Hi

Your post is a bit vague, but most people manage to settle in and make friends pretty quickly via any number of social activities (in normal times).

The most important thing is to decide where?  Torrevieja is a town/city, but the word is often used to cover a large number of surrounding areas.

Cheers

Steve

La Liga  Obviously Elche is your nearest team. In normal times there is a local tour company who run transport etc for the games. Nothing has been announced yet for next season, even though the fixtures are out. But we don’t know about ground capacity yet.

Learning Spanish- once you sign on to the padron your local town hall will give you details of any classses  available. They’re usually free. Not sure again if they’re up and running yet, due to Covid. Failing that many bars run classes in Spanish as well as in many other things including wine tasting and art classes. As well as you usual, quizzes, bingo, ladies clubs, bowls groups, golf societies etc etc. You can be as busy or as lazy as you want over here, but there’s lots of opportunities to make new friends.

We also have about half a dozen expat free newspapers and they will tell you about what’s going on in the region

If you haven’t already done so, I would suggest joining up to Talk Quesada, which is the sister site to this one. That will give you more of an insight to the Rojales area.
