Kim, as always this is the usual comprehensive reply but I don't think that I will be alone in thinking that the OP is going to plough on regardless of any sensible advice.

Ken.

Thanks for spoiling the conversations Ken and putting other people off replying.

I don't think that my small contribution will put our members off from adding to the thread, not from my past experience anyway.

This is how open forums are, you ask a question and you get loads of different opinions, sorry that mine didn't suit you.

Of course, it's your decision to make, but buying and owning property in Spain can be like the Wild West compared to the UK.  You could proceed and be very happy, but when things go wrong here, the cost and length of time associated with taking legal action makes it nigh-on impossible to achieve redress through the Spanish judicial system.

Whatever you decide, good luck!

Kind regards,

Kim

  Best regards Sean.

Dude, wake up!!! You are looking at buying a property that could potentially suffer such damage that insurance would be astronomical, or if not the property, then most definately the Communal grounds.

In respect of DP.  People.who dont fully understand how this works use it as a cop out.  Data Protection Laws are there to ensure that no private, sensitive or restricted information are released to a 3rd party not entitled to have access to it.  I'm curious to know what such information is contained on a Communal Insurance Policy that these categories would apply!!!

If there is such information contained within it and its not massive amounts, then ask them for a copy with that Data blanked out. I used to use tipex white strip which worked perfectly.  Using a black marker pen wasnt as effective as sometimes the info would still shkw through, even on a photocopy.

Please heed the advice others have given you.  Such a risk is just not worth taking and if you do, on your head be it (as my dear mother used to say)

Just to let everyone know who contributed to this post that the owners of the apartment either wouldn’t or couldn’t provide me with the insurance details so the sale has fallen through, thankyou all for your comments much appreciated.

Hi smc,

Many thanks for the update.  I'm sorry you're back to square one, but the fact that, as you say, the vendor "couldn't or wouldn't" provide a redacted copy of their insurance is probably all you needed to know.

Well done for not saddling yourself with a dud and good luck with your continued search.

Kind regards,

Kim
