Hi Marcus,

When the Spanish banks introduced charges for Residents' accounts at the end of last year, I looked at Starling, Revolut, Monzo and N26.  They all provide IBAN numbers with the accounts and I'd recommend them for Non-residents.  However, they're all app-based and, as a resident, the one thing that prevented me from switching is the potential for the app not to be available: the reviews I read suggested they aren't 100% reliable.  That said, for non-residents who will probably need to make fewer, non-urgent transactions, they appeared to me to be really good options.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Marcus

I too changed our bank account after 10+years with Sabadell paying out over 2000€ over time in charges. I looked at all banks including ones mentioned but wanted a branch too. I changed to Cajamar bank. I have already recommended them at length on previous replies so please look up on this forum for my earlier postings in Banking and you will see my hints and tips on opening. It must be done in branch for non residents not online as doesnt recognise white nies, although it is an online account. You can still go into branch for a face to face transaction which does have a small fee for just that month. I havent needed to in a year(except to get a duplicate debit card as left mine in UK), I paid 3€ for duplicate and no other fee. I have not paid any fees in a year now, so very happy.

Regards

Pauline.
